A generation of leadership has been vanishing with the passage of time. Concurrently, divisiveness has spread us out so thin that terms like "posek ha-dor," which imply Jewish unity, seem very hard to answer.

That said, I'm very curious to hear who (or what kind) people think this generation's posek ha-dor will be. At present, the only living Posek I can think of who has such widespread halachic gravitas is R. Ovadia Yosef Shlit'a (and if his son's Yalkut Yosef will continue in popularity, will have a long term impact on the Sephardic community). While I wish R. Ovadia many more fruitful years, I am also aware that he will turn 92 this month.

Is there a rising visionary who will lead the halachic discourse and all the new problems of contemporary society therein? Do you think Klal Israel is still receptive to the concept of a posek ha-dor?

Answers might likely reflect your approach to envisioning Israel's future. And so I would love to know who you think might be our next model of halachic achdut.

Thanks Double AA. I'm sorry I didn't realize the question was out of bounds. I was looking for an answer regarding the role of paskening in a posek-unfriendly era. I wasn't trying to state an opinion, just thinking lately of R. Ovadia's goal that everyone follow the Shulchan Aruch and end local minhagim. That led me to the idea of a universal posek, which then led to wondering about its possibility. I'll try to think of a more direct, answerable question next time. – Aryeh Sep 3 '12 at 22:42
