I've heard it said that during one of the wars waged against the state of Israel, the Israeli army had a pitiful airforce, comprised of two rickety old planes, which held two people. When they ran out of ammo, one of the pilots insisted that his crew fill up the back of the plane with sodas, which he then dropped on the enemy with his second hand, frightening them away.

Can anyone provide a source for this story and tell me during which war it took place?

If the air force was that small, it must have been the first war in 1948. – Double AA Aug 13 '12 at 14:02
I could be misquoting the story as well, but I think that's it. – Moshe Aug 13 '12 at 14:16

It sounds like a nice story but unfortunately I'm not sure I'm seeing how it's in scope. – yoel Aug 13 '12 at 14:35

sodas? israeli fruit juice is much more corrosive than the best that Coke could offer. This is totally out of scope. – Charles Koppelman Aug 13 '12 at 14:42

I think I agree. The FAQ excludes questions about Israeli history. You can see this meta post for more details and discussion. Closing as out of scope. – Double AA Aug 13 '12 at 14:48
