Sometimes I hear מסֶכתא (pronounce: masechta) pronounced as מסִכתא (pronounce: masichta) by some people, particularly in Ashkenazi circles. Why is this?

Adam, maybe if you could narrow down what sub-group you've heard this from, we can try to fish out an answer, because I've also never heard this pronunciation. @doubleaa, that was a little obnoxious. Funny, but still. – Seth J Jul 23 '12 at 1:46

@AdamMosheh Unless you are implying that it is because of that book series that Ashkenazi people pronounce it that way, I don't think that's much of an answer. – WAF Jul 23 '12 at 2:27
